About Us
The Biology Lab and Life Science Stockroom, located in Room 004 of the Marsh Life Sciences Building, is a centralized facility providing molecular biology reagents, lab consumables, and dry goods at reduced costs to UVM’s teaching and research community. Launched through freezer program partnerships in the late 1980s and 1990s, it has grown into essential infrastructure serving not only the Biology Department but also departments across the College of Arts and Sciences, College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, and the Larner College of Medicine. Products are priced below vendor catalog rates and are available for immediate use—eliminating wait times and easing administrative workload.
The facility supports UVM’s academic mission by giving researchers and instructors timely access to materials critical for lab-based teaching and scientific discovery. It enables undergraduates, graduate students, and faculty to efficiently and affordably obtain supplies. All billing runs through departmental accounts, grants, and other approved funds, making the facility a self-sustaining, mission-aligned resource.
It also advances UVM’s sustainability goals by reducing packaging waste and delivery-related emissions. Consolidated vendor shipments limit truck trips and lessen the burden on campus labs and custodial staff. This efficient model boosts both environmental responsibility and research productivity.
Designed for flexibility, the stockroom can quickly source out-of-stock items through standing purchase orders with major vendors. Staff also provide expert guidance for equipment purchases, helping researchers navigate sole source or three-quote processes with ease. This combination of accessibility, efficiency, and procurement support makes the facility a valuable partner in campus research and teaching.
